Enjoying a Game of Gul Bara

Gul Bara is game that is very famous in the country of Bulgaria, but as time has passed, has slowly become popular in other parts of the world as well. The game, which is also called Crazy Narde has the main objective of the players having to move all of their checkers all round a backgammon board and try to lose or bear off these checkers. Whoever is left with no more checkers on the board is the winner of the game. A lot of the times, Gul Bara is played in some social gatherings in a party or in someone's home for fun, and sometimes, is used as a means to gamble money. Whatever the reason of playing it, it is certainly a game that is worth trying as it is another variant of Backgammon.

Usually, in the game of Gul Bara, there are only two players who have to start rolling a die, and whoever gets a chance to have the higher number would then take his turn first. After it is decided who goes first in the game, that player who is chosen to go first would then start rolling his dice again in order to begin the game and start his turn. Each of the players are given fifteen checkers which are usually located at the far right side of the backgammon board, and is usually in a diagonally opposite position from the other player's side of the board.

In the game, the act of rolling the dice would in turn, begin to indicate the number of points or places that a particular player can begin to move his checkers across the board. But one must remember that a checker is only allowed to move to a point that is open, which means that the point should not be occupied the checker of the other player. Often times, the numerals on both dice is used by a Gul Bara player to either make moves that are separate from one another, or he can also add the numerals together in order to make just one move across the backgammon board. The main difference of Gul Bara as compared to the other backgammon variants is that there is no presence or concept of "hitting" in a game of Gul Bara. So this basically means that a checker that is located on a certain point in the board is the controller of that point and cannot be taken off by the checker of another player.

Gul Bara is definitely a game that one should try during his free time. Who knows, you may even really get hooked into it!
